Following our coverage of the Marine Corps Marathon. We would like to showcase some of the extraordinary individuals who have decided to raise money for Grassroots by running in the 26.2 mile race this fall. Featured this week is Elise Johnson from North Carolina. Elise will race in this year’s marathon to celebrate a special anniversary.
Elise is running in the Marine Corps Marathon to mark her 10 year anniversary of when she ran the 2004 Chicago Marathon. She has decided to celebrate this anniversary by running her second (and probably last) marathon this fall.
We asked Elise a couple of questions about her motivations and expectations for the upcoming race.
Q. What motivated you to run for team Grassroot?
E. The first and only other marathon I’ve run was with fellow TGP runner Mallory Schwarz, and we trained with the National AIDS Marathon training program to run the Chicago Marathon in 2004. As this is the 10 year anniversary of that marathon, we thought that running for TGP was an excellent link to our past experience, and after reading more about the organization we really liked that it was a small non-profit, so that all of the money we raised would go directly to help DC youth.
Q. What do you love most about running?
E. It gives me time to daydream, and think through my to-do lists.
Q.What is one fun fact about you?
E. I listen to podcasts on long runs, I’ve found that they help pass the time faster than just music.
