Grassroots Fam

Grassroots Fam is a two-session after school workshop that supports parents and caregivers of TGP participants to feel more comfortable and confident in communicating with their youth about health. Grassroots Fam includes modules on health literacy, community-based health resources, health-related values, and health communication skills-building. True to our model of interactive, games-based learning, the two sessions of Grassroot Fam include competitive games and role-plays where parents can feel comfortable sharing their ideas, beliefs, and challenges with communicating with their children about health.

Grassroots Fam programs serve to:

1. Familiarize parents/caregivers with TGP’s health education curricula, with a particular emphasis on our sexual and mental health curricula.
2. Equip parents/caregivers with factual information about sexual and mental health statistics in their community, strategies for prevention, and options for treatment.
3. Increase parent-to-child communication about health topics with an emphasis on positive, honest communication
4. Bring families together to discuss and tackle the health challenges in their communities to broaden the power of community engagement and further advance health equity together
