A little bit about Monique…
Monique Miller hails from Toronto, Canada. Prior to joining TGP, Monique worked as a Program Officer with Engineers Without Borders in Malawi. In this role, she worked with national and district government, NGOs and Members of Parliament to advocate improved financing for sustainable Water, Sanitation and Hygiene service delivery. Monique holds a Masters in International Migration & Public Policy from the London School of Economics. While studying was on the LSE rowing team and volunteered with Debate Mate to inspire and grow the confidence of urban youth in London through debating. Monique completed her bachelor degree in International Development with an emphasis on Gender at the University of Guelph in Canada. In her spare time she can be found at boot camp, with friends and family, or listening to music.

Where did you grow up?
Toronto, Canada
Where is your favorite place you have traveled?
No one favourite it’s so hard to choose! Top of the list includes: Cuba, Portugal, and Tanzania.
What inspires you about working for a non-profit like Grassroots?
Having the privilege to work with youth, build relationships, serve communities and increase access to knowledge!
What are you most excited about doing over the next year with Grassroots?
I am excited for all that the year will bring, it’s going to be so dynamic!
Whats your favorite type of candy?(We’ll make sure we have it in the office! haha)

Who is your greatest role model, and why?
My mom! She’s is fun loving and youthful. Her glass is always half full as she looks for the silver lining in situations and people. Also known as the energizer bunny… I hope when I get to her age that I’ll have half the energy she does.
What’s your Grassroots nickname? (For this one, we all come up with nicknames because it makes it a lot more fun for the kids, and quite frankly for fun for us!)

If you had to give anyone a SHOUTOUT right now, who would it be and why? (Shout-outs are how we praise the kids, and praise each other, so basically who would you tell “good-job” to now for something and why)
Shout out to my co-fellow SG! She is funny, supportive and super considerate! I’m lucky to have her as my sidekick for a full year!!
If you have a favorite sport, what is it and who is your favorite team?(College or Professional)

If you were stranded on an island and got to bring three people with you, who would you bring?
A stranger who has managed to get off a stranded island before (I like meeting new people, and I need that skill set on my squad), my brother for the adventure of it all, and my friend who loves the outdoors!
Fun/interesting/random fact about yourself?
I once held a tarantula in the palm of my hand!
