Sarah Patton
GW, Retired Soccer

Sarah Patton (she/her/hers) is from a small town in southern New Jersey. She is an accelerated BS/MPH dual-degree program student at The George Washington University, where she is working to attain her Master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition while finishing her Bachelor’s of Science. For the majority of her life and the first two years of Sarah’s college education, she played soccer for the women’s varsity soccer team at GW. She attributes many life lessons and skills to her experience with soccer. Additionally at GW, Sarah is a member of Globemed, an organization that strives to bring students and their partner community together in order to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. She first discovered Grassroots Health during her freshman year at GW and fell in love with the organization’s mission to advance health equity. Sarah was trained by a fellow teammate and joined a program immediately to get involved. The more programs Sarah was in, the more and more she fell in love with GRH and wanted to expand her involvement. She became a Training Fellow in the Summer of 2023 where she took on the role to recruit student-athletes at GW to join the Grassroots family. Sarah is grateful for her involvement in Grassroots Health as she is able to connect with fellow student-athletes and the DC community.

The professional world knows her as Sarah, but her friends call her SJ. SJ also goes by Ice Tray, her Grassroots nickname, which was given to her by the well-known Mango Larabar. Sarah has a twin brother, and she is the youngest of five by one minute. SJ is considered a famous figure by her friends because of her over 2k food Instagram followers (@recipesbysj). Her page features mouthwatering plant-based eats that she chefs up in the kitchen. If SJ is not busy cooking, you may find her at a thrift store, Trader Joe’s, running by the monuments, teaching herself to play the ukulele, or at a coffee shop (most likely For Five) drinking a black cold brew. If you want to bond with SJ talk about soccer. Or longboarding. Or Formula One (she is currently learning manual).
