Mahder Johnson (she/her) is currently an intern serving as a Site Coordinator with Grassroots Health. She first began volunteering with the organization in Fall 2023 and later transitioned into this internship and leadership role, where she continues to guide and support fellow athletes and facilitators. Mahder is a junior at Howard University, majoring in Sports Medicine with minors in Biology and Chemistry. Her academic interests include neuroscience, injury prevention, and community health education. She plans to attend medical school to pursue a career in orthopedics, neurology, or sports medicine, aiming to promote health equity and education within healthcare. She loves how her involvement with Grassroots Health has strengthened her knowledge of health from a community-based perspective, allowing her to approach her future career interests with a deeper understanding of education, prevention, and equity.

Mahder loves bringing fun and positivity into every room and connecting with students of all different personalities. She loves how Grassroots Health creates a space for conversation, learning, and community empowerment, which reflects her passion for mentorship and equity in health education. As “Princess Tiana,” she has fun seeing students grow in their confidence and health knowledge, and learning to apply it to their own lives. Outside of Grassroots, she enjoys going on walks by the water, hiking, cooking, and spending time with friends!
