Leah Croom
Howard, Lacrosse

Leah Croom is a sophomore Psychology major with a minor in Biology at Howard University and a member of the Women’s Lacrosse team. After attending her first Grassroots Health training, she fell in love with the organization’s mission to unite sport, community, service, and health. Leah serves as the Mental Health Chair for Howard’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council, hosts The Anxious Athlete podcast, mentors through Better Together, and creates NIL content that promotes wellness and representation. Originally from Falmouth, MA, and Miami, FL, she credits her coastal roots for her balance and work ethic. Leah aspires to become a physician specializing in Psychiatry, Pediatrics, or Sports Medicine, continuing to lead with empathy and purpose.

Leah (Ladybug) brings confidence and “big sister energy” everywhere she goes—around campus, D.C., or Burr gymnasium with her headphones playing SiR or Mariah the Scientist (and probably with a coconut water in hand). Because of her time in the calm of New England and the energy of South Florida, she’s a total beach lover who swears salt water and sunshine can fix almost any problem. Gratitude, growth, and getting better each day are her motivators, plus a little meditation to keep her calm when life gets chaotic. Ladybug adores Grassroots because it brings her back to the kid who fell in love with science and picked up her first lacrosse stick. As she looks to bring more representation into the field of Medicine, she is so grateful to work with Grassroots’ inclusive and adaptive curriculum that develops students to move both their minds and bodies. She’s passionate about working with others (especially kids and athletes) and believes progress is the best kind of win! Her motto? Lead by example, laugh often, and remember to run your race.
