Layla is an upcoming junior at McKinley Technology High School, where she is participating in the STEM Biotechnology program. When Layla gets to college, she aspires to major in nursing to become either a neonatal or developmental disability nurse. She also aspires to minor in psychology and performing arts. Layla also wants to pledge and become a part of Delta Sigma Theta in college. She played volleyball, ran track & field, and participated in cheerleading throughout her school years (primary school to high school). She puts her education first and is committed to obtaining as many scholarships as possible during her senior year. She grew up all over DC, and her favorite hobbies are dancing and drawing. Layla loves spending time with kids, playing games, and helping out with teaching. So, for this reason, she chose Grassroots Health for her summer internship, making it a great fit for her interests and personality.
Layla’s nickname, “Muse,” is inspired by her inner artistic self. She finds inspiration in anything and everything: movies, TV shows, everyday life, or even historical events. Muse loves loves loves romantic comedies; if she could be in one, she would probably take that opportunity. She has always loved art. She grew up going to West Virginia with her grandmother and painting all summer.
Muse loves dance, which she has been doing basically all her life. She loves to talk a lot, so if you can’t handle it, you may just have to find someone else to be around. Muse is a very energetic person and very kind-hearted, which is easy to tell once she gets comfortable. She’s a very big fan of Hello Kitty, Spiderman, Fugglers, and is a huge movie girly. Whenever she isn’t out doing something, you will catch her at home, binge-watching romantic comedies and other movies (sometimes she’ll choose new movies, but she tends to rewatch movies almost 100 times). Muse is a very big fan of love. If you told her love wasn’t real, she wouldn’t believe you, not even a little bit. She loves anything and everything about love, even the messy bits. She has always wanted to experience it for herself, whether it was platonic or romantic. She also writes POETRY, and has been writing since she was in a 6th-grade creative writing course. She has gotten better over the years and uses poetry as a way to express herself and her experiences that others may or may not relate to. She also does her own piercings; almost every piercing on her she has done herself.
