Katie Swatek
GW, Rowing

Katie Swatek (she/her) is a sophomore at The George Washington University, where she is studying International Affairs and minoring in German. Prior to her time at GW, Katie grew up in Northern Virginia playing competitive softball and field hockey. She is now a member of the GW Women’s Rowing team. Katie began volunteering with Grassroots Health during the Spring of 2022 and is currently serving as a Training Fellow working to increase recruitment of GW student-athletes. Katie’s love of athletics and her passion for raising mental health awareness has carried over to her work at GRH as she strives to provide both student-athletes and the DC youth community with the knowledge and resources to live happy and healthy lives.

Katie’s love for cheesy crackers shaped like fish and her inability to keep a grin off her face is the reasoning behind her Grassroots nickname, Goldfish (the snack that smiles back). While she may be a little quiet at first, don’t let it fool you. The supportive and encouraging Grassroots Health community has helped her break her shell. When she isn’t at Grassroots, you can find Goldfish in a boat on the Potomac, pumping iron in the gym, belting the latest Taylor Swift song at the top of her lungs in the shower, or snacking on some Flavor-Blasted Cheddar Goldfish.
