Helen Feldmeth
Georgetown, Rowing

Helen Feldmeth is a women’s rower at Georgetown University studying Justice and Peace Studies with a minor in Spanish (class of 2024). Helen grew up moving around, living in Austin Texas, Ohio, Switzerland, Amsterdam, and Connecticut. After getting involved in the Zoom version of Grassroots Health during her freshman year of college, Helen has remained committed to the mission of Grassroots Health volunteering as a Coach and now as a Head Coach in the classrooms.  Helen spent the summer of 2022 and the following academic year working as a Training Fellow and facilitating student-athlete training sessions. This year she has an additional focus on recruiting athletes, working with coaches at Georgetown, and taking a leadership role in training sessions. Beginning in a zoom classroom with LayLay and Llama to multiple in-person weekly programs, Helen has since fallen deep into the rabbit hole of Grassroots Health. Helen has a passionate work ethic between academics and athletics, but values the time spent with the students as the highlight of her week. Grassroots Health has become a home, a family, and a cause that continues to make her undergrad life fuller and inspire her post-grad life.

Though known to most as Helen, she adores having the Grassroots Health youth and athletes know her primarily as “Cookie.” Cookie will jokingly describe herself as a personality hire (ask anyone who has been in a meeting with her or received an email from her recently). The woman has no rhythm whatsoever but equally lacks shame. What can you say, it’s just how the cookie crumbles. Grassroots Health has been the place she has grown to feel most authentically herself and would love for many more to get to know this side of her life. Cookie also currently works as an intern at Athletes For Hope, further mobilizing athletes as agents for change in varying philanthropic efforts, like Grassroots Health! But, if you’ve had a long week, Cookie also works as a bartender in DC and is happy to break it down with you. Come visit and she will make you something fun, not very fancy, but definitely fun. Cookie is also a fan of trying new things, feel free to cheer her on at her skateboarding club events or intramural basketball games, she’s not the best but she has a good time and will probably make you give it a shot too. Cookie is deeply loyal to the people she cares about, considering them family, and is always eager to expand said family. So please say “hey”, “hi”, or “hello”, unless she beats you to it!

And now some of Cookie’s favorite cookies (in no particular order):

Snickerdoodle, sugar, the Italian ones covered in chocolate chips, rainbow sprinkles, peanut butter chocolate chip, lemon bars (in my mind those are cookies), not really a big fan of classic chocolate chip, oh but cookie cakes for sure, fortune cookies, cannolis, gingerbread cookies (has to be soft), the frosted Lofthouse ones from the grocery store, chocolate crinkle, whoopie pies, molasses cookies, Mexican wedding cookies, pecan divinity, animal crackers, alfajores, stroopwafels (obviously shoutout the Netherlands), etc.
