Elizabeth Cruz
GW, Soccer

Elizabeth Cruz (she/her/hers) is a Junior Communication Major at George Washington University. She grew up on Long Island, New York, where she attended Manhasset High School. She has been a Training Fellow for Grassroots Health since the Summer of 2022 and has been a volunteer athlete since January 2022. Her internship with Grassroots Health this summer allowed her to spread the mission of Grassroots Health and work on facilitation as well as recruitment. She serves as a head coach in her programs and focuses on recruiting more GW athletes when training season comes. Working at Grassroots Health has allowed her to make continued meaningful relationships with not only the students but the Grassroots Health family as well. Currently, she is also working as an intern at the GW Hospital in the Marketing/Communications department.

Lizard is known as the “empath” by her fellow Grassroots Health volunteers. What started with a simple answer of empathy during the “My Supporters” mental health practice, became a running inside joke among the Grassroots Health staff. This lighthearted environment has allowed Lizard to see Grassroots Health as an extended family with awesome people and endless laughs. When Lizard isn’t at Grassroots Health, she is at the soccer field or spending time with family and friends. After the GW women’s soccer team was trained in Mental Health in the fall, Lizard has made sure to get her teammates into programs. She will never forget the WSG Program that was run by her and her teammates. Lizard also loves to try new cuisines, watch movies, go on walks with friends, and work on creative projects. She is excited to work with Grassroots Health and continue to make more memories and impactful relationships.
