Dear Grassroots Team and Supporters,
Thanks for standing with us – it has been quite a year and we’ve really taken off! We’ve run programs in 31 schools across DC and trained more than 400 NCAA athletes from Howard, Georgetown, and George Washington Universities.
While I usually stress our growth in numbers, I wanted to let you know that we’ve been spending a lot of time on building our organization so that we can take things to scale. I think our program itself is unique, but I am also excited about having an organization structure that breaks the mold by being driven by student-athletes.
This year, we took 8 athletes on a 3-day, intensive training course in ‘non-profit 101,’ and now they’re managing the rollout of our strategic plan. It’s really cool to witness everyone take action.
Our newest group of athlete leaders came up with the idea for the November Campaign, and I thought it was awesome. While we have done a great job building a support base of grants for our current programs, we are hoping to go grassroots with a campaign to support programs in 3 NEW schools next year. If lots of our supporters give a small amount, we will be able to make it happen. Thanks for all you have done and continue to do for us!

From the Athlete Leaders:
We had an idea to start a campaign to countdown to World AIDS Day, and we are now bringing it to life! Our November Campaign will kick-off Monday November, 5th and run all the way up to World AIDS Day on December, 1st. Each week will have a different theme and also highlight one Grassroots coach, program, and alum.
Our goal is to raise $3,000, the base cost of starting programs at THREE schools, and raise awareness about the impact we have in DC and beyond. Even if it’s just $5, $10, or $500, any donation counts towards helping us achieve our goal! Additionally, our Grassroot Coaches at each university will be running fundraisers and activities with the students. We will update you with our progress and other ways you can get involved over the next four weeks via our Facebook, Twitter and Blog pages so be sure to follow and Like us to stay up to date.
As always, feel free to drop us a line, stop in our office, or attend one of our Grassroots Graduation ceremonies to meet the kids! We’d love to meet you!
