Former Standout Grassroots Coach Joins TGP to Spearhead Growth of Programs
October 1, 2017
Grassroots is thrilled to announce the addition of Jane Wallis as Director of Programs. She will be leading the growth of TGP’s programs, and she will be working directly with TGP’s staff, partners, and student-athletes.
From 2010-2014, Jane served as a Grassroots Coach and member of TGP’s athlete-led Leader Team. While a TGP volunteer, she facilitated programs at middle schools across the city, organized TGP training-of-facilitator workshops, and helped to recruit dozens of her peers to become volunteers. For her work with TGP while she was an undergraduate, Jane was recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative and honored with GW’s Outstanding Student Service Award.
Following graduation from GW, Jane served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Choma District, Zambia. There, she worked with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief to build an HIV Treatment Center that provided anti-retroviral therapy, education, and support services to more than 1,000 people living with HIV in her community. She returns from the Peace Corps eager to give back to TGP, an organization that she credits with originally igniting her passion for public health.
Jane holds both a Masters and a Bachelors of Science in Public Health from The George Washington University, where she was a four-year scholarship recipient on the varsity women’s soccer team. Jane was Captain of her soccer team and President of the Student Athletic Advisory Council (SAAC) during her senior year, and she served as the team’s assistant coach while she was in graduate school.
“As a freshman in college, TGP helped me find a passion for public health. Now, after gaining new experiences in graduate school and work in Zambia, I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to come back and work with the same organization that got it all started for me. I cannot wait to be back working with athletes and the TGP staff again and see how we can continue to grow and influence youth in DC.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Jane back to DC and back to TGP. I’ve always hoped that someday we’d be able to hire our former student-athletes to come back and help us grow. Jane was a stand-out volunteer and leader of TGP during her time at GW, and the work she’s done in the Peace Corps will only add to what she brings to TGP as our Director of Programs. She has the passion, the skills, and the experience to take our work to the next level, and we can’t wait to start working with her,” said TGP’s Founder Tyler Spencer.
