Grassroots Health Awarded Quality Insights 50th Anniversary Grant
WASHINGTON, DC – Grassroots Health is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of the winners of Quality Insights’ 50th anniversary grant program, which was created to support promising and innovative initiatives to improve health and healthcare quality.
Under the grant, Grassroots Health will recruit and train 100 college athletes in Washington DC and Philadelphia to deliver weekly sports-based health education modules for 10 weeks in 13 Title 1 middle schools. The project is an investment in both preventive health education for middle school youth AND volunteer/peer training in a health-related field for college student volunteer program facilitators.
Grassroots Health was chosen among numerous applicants from across the nine states and territories where Quality Insights facilitates quality improvement initiatives. The organization will receive a grant of $15,907.27 to help fund its project.
“We’re thrilled to join forces with Grassroots Health on their transformative 100 College Athletes project,” said Quality Insights CEO Sven T. Berg, MD. “This initiative embodies a dual investment—in the preventive health education of under-resourced middle school students and in the professional development of college athletes aspiring to careers in health. We can’t wait to see how the trained college athletes, the middle school students they serve, and the wider healthcare community benefit from this innovative project.”
“We are excited and grateful to win a grant from Quality Insights and to get to know the Quality Insights team in the coming year,” said Grassroots Health’s Founder and Executive Director Tyler Spencer, PhD. “Both of our organizations are committed to improving the quality of our healthcare workforce, addressing social determinants of health, and preventing disease.”
