SHOUTOUT to our Grassroots Coach Deseree King from Georgetown University! This March she competed at the Big East Track & Field Championship and won the gold in the 400m dash and a silver in the 4x400m relay!
We took a little time to interview her and congratulate her for all of her accomplishments!
How in your sport have you demonstrated resiliency?
In life and in track there are many obstacles that you will face and you have to remember that these obstacles only make you a better person. When something doesn’t go as plan you have to come up with another plan as quick as possible and execute it to the best of your abilities. You can dwell on something that didn’t go your way, you learn from it and move on.
What is your favorite Grassroot game?
Find the ball!
What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring young student athlete?
Never Give Up and Stay Humble! It hard to not give up when faced with adversity but you have to remember the big picture, the end goal. Whether it is in school or in your respective sports, you have to remind yourself why you started something in the first place and how you will feel when you reach your goal. Once you reach your goal and become successful remember what it took for you to get there.
Why did you decide to volunteer with Grassroots?
Since I am from this area I thought it would be cool to get involved with an organization that sheds light on a very prominent issue that affects this area tremendously.
