Grassroots is excited to announce the appointment of Christine Campbell as Chair of TGP’s Board of Directors. Christine will replace outgoing Board Chair Patrick Nero, who has played a pivotal role in building the Board of Directors and supporting Grassroots through its most recent stage of strategic planning and growth.
“Grassroots is an amazing organization with a commitment to the community that is contagious. I am honored to follow Patrick Nero, who was instrumental in energizing our board. As I take the baton from Patrick, I am looking forward to facilitating TGP’s next steps as we work to achieve our goals.”
Christine is a long-time community activist, organizer, and nonprofit leader. She has more than 30 years of experience working for and alongside nonprofit organizations and advocacy groups to advance social justice across a range of topic areas, and she has worked on direct service, technical assistance, advocacy, and leadership development.
Christine has known Grassroots since first supporting us in 2009 when we were just getting off the ground. We sat down to ask her a few questions as she enters this stage of board leadership at TGP.
How did you first learn about Grassroots, and what made you excited to support us?
I will never forget the day that Tyler came to my office trying to understand the HIV community in DC. His passion for the work showed through and after meeting with him for about an hour I was hooked. I was invested in doing what I could to support this extraordinary organization
What has been your most rewarding moment in your time supporting our organization and/or serving as a board member?
The moments that have been the most rewarding has been participating in the training of college athletes to become health educators, the middle school students’ graduations, and hanging out with the staff in the office as they are just going about their work. Their energy is absolutely remarkable and their humility is remarkable.
What are you most excited about for TGP’s future?
What I am most excited about is building the organization. Strengthening our infrastructure, developing TGP in Philly and getting the word out of the amazing work that TGP does.
