Only 3 days until the Marine Corps Marathon! Check out today’s runners spotlight!
Former Georgetown Rower and Grassroot Hoyas Coach Catherine Mills gives us a little info on herself for our last MCM runner’s spotlight. To donate to Catherine or any of the other runners, please visit the fundraising page here
1. Give us some background on yourself…
I was born and raised in NJ, went to college in DC, and now I’m living and working in NYC. I currently work for a small pharmaceutical company doing marketing, but I’m applying to medical school now so fingers-crossed I will soon be a student again!
2. What is your connection to Grassroots/What make you want to run a marathon with TGP?
I went to Georgetown for undergrad and was a Grassroots Coach my senior year. I wanted to run a marathon with TGP because I LOVE Grassroots, it is near and dear to my heart and I wanted to continue being involved and supporting TGP. I am really excited to see the results of TGP down the road, I really believe in it and I think it is going to make a huge difference.
3. What is your athletic/running experience?
I’ve been an athlete my whole life. Growing up I played soccer and I swam. My sophomore year of high school I began running cross-country and fell in love with it, and haven’t really stopped running since. I also rowed for four years in high school and was on the varsity crew team at Georgetown for two years.
4. How was training for this marathon?
HARD. Time consuming and hard. I really had no clue what I was getting myself into. I also largely trained alone, so sometimes it’s been really boring and lonely. I’ve been really dedicated to it though so hopefully it will pay off on marathon day!
5. Do you have a favorite athlete role model? favorite sports team?
Hmm…I don’t really have a favorite athlete role model. But my favorite sports teams are the Georgetown Men’s Basketball Team, the University of Michigan Football Team and the USA National Rowing Team (they just look so good when they row!).
6. At Grassroots we all have nicknames, what would your grassroots nickname be?
My Grassroots nickname when I was a coach was “C-Dog”.
7. In grassroots we give SHOUTOUTS to people we want to praise, who would you give SHOUTOUT to right now?
I would give a SHOUTOUT to my fellow Grassroots MCM teammates for all the hard work they’ve put in! 🙂 We’re so close!!! (that and the government for finally getting their act together and re-opening, thus making the MCM not have to be cancelled)
8. If you were trapped on an island and could only bring 3 people with you, who would they be?
This is always such a difficult question. I would probably bring my mom, my sister, and Jennifer Lawrence. My mom and sister because my mom is awesome and my sister is pretty much my best friend (and roommate…hopefully the island is bigger than our apartment, otherwise we might have some problems). And Jennifer Lawrence because I think she is absolutely hilarious and she seems pretty down to earth and fun.
