Favorite Grassroots game: Find the Ball and Juggle my Life(I couldn’t choose between the two.lol)
What is your most memorable Grassroots moment?
At the end of the 2010 school year in when we had the graduation for all of our classes for the year. Celebrating with the kids was definitely an unforgettable experience!
What are you doing now?
I’m outreach coordinator for a non-profit and I do freelance political consulting.
What lessons did you learn in Grassroots that have carried over to your job now?
From my experience in political consulting, a bulk of our work was grassroots organizing which involved starting a campaign, building and developing it from the ground up. I’d like to think a lot of the skills I picked up with The Grassroots Project, transferred over to allow me to implement plans to create successful campaigns. I learned that the groundwork that we did-going into schools and educating and informing children- goes a long way in making a difference.
What advice would you give Grassroots athletes who are getting ready to enter the real world?
Network and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way because you never know where it could lead. Stay active in the community and pay it forward. You never know how much your influence can impact someone’s life.
Where do you see Grassroots going in 5 years?
Grassroots has expanded so much since I got involved. I see Grassroots expanding to other states in the area and becoming one of the biggest influences in the HIV/AIDS advocacy community along the east coast. Grassroots has created so much awareness in the DC community and educated tons of children in the area. I know there are collegiate athletes all over the country who would love to educate children within their communities. It’s inspiring to see that we as students and athletes have mobilized to impact our local communities.
