Melea Earley is a recent Howard University Women’s Soccer alum. She majored in Environmental Studies with a minor in Sociology. With future career plans to work in environmental law/policy, she is currently pursuing a certificate in Public Administration. Her ultimate goal is to advocate for the disproportionate effects against black and brown communities as it relates to environmental racism. Melea joined Grassroots Health because of her passion for community engagement and health equity, particularly in communities that are often overlooked and underserved. She strives to create safe, empowering spaces for DC youth to learn about critical public health topics and feel seen, heard, and supported. Grassroots has further supported her commitment to service-driven leadership and community-based change!
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Melea Tortilla’s favorite cuisine is Mexican, which is how she got her nickname. Off the field, she enjoys travelling, cooking, trying new foods, spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephews, and exploring DC! Her favorite part about DC is the rich culture. It’s like a melting pot of experiences, and an amazing place to live and learn. Tortilla’s been playing soccer since she was 4 years old, and it’s always been her safe space: whenever things in life go wrong, soccer feels right and fun! She enjoys listening to R&B and old-school gospel, and her all-time favorite food is sushi!
