Genevieve Mumma
GW, Sailing

Genevieve Mumma (she/her/hers) is in her third year at The George Washington University, where she is studying Political Science and Peace Studies, with a minor in Spanish. Genevieve is originally from O’ahu, Hawai’i but now calls DC her second home, where she is part of the GW Sailing Team and Grassroots Health. With her year of involvement since 2022, Genevieve has grown quickly from her first ever Sexual Health training—where she first became Gemstone—to becoming a Training Fellow, recruiting new student-athletes and finding deeper meaning in the continued service and relationships that come with Grassroots Health programs. She currently is a head coach in Mental Health programs and is a leader in trainings as well. Outside of Grassroots Health, Genevieve has coached sailing for over 3 years, and has leadership experience with her role as treasurer and her previous position in recruiting with GW Sailing. She also aims to serve the DC community with her involvement with the Washington English Center as a tutor for immigrants learning English. Because of her ties to Hawai’i and her Filipina roots, she is interested in political advocacy for AAPI and BIPOC communities.

Genevieve has many nicknames including but not limited to Gemstone, Gem, Gemmy, Little Gemmy, Gemarooski—all thanks to her favorite people that make up our Grassroots Health family. She is always around to offer a helping hand and you can count on her to bring a chill vibe to trainings, the office, and programs (though she can get loud if she needs to). In her free time, if she’s not on the water, she is probably cooking up a new recipe, playing guitar or ukulele, or just being mysterious (she’s a Scorpio).
