Grassroots is thankful for more than turkey this Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time for thought and reflection. It is close to the end of the calendar year and a time when we do more than eat a copious amount of food. We begin to look back on the year we had and think of all the people and things for which we are thankful. It is a time to surround ourselves with some of our main supporters, such as family and friends, and be thankful for those people who make us happy and our lives better.
As the fifth anniversary of Grassroots approaches, we asked what some of our volunteers, coaches, employees, and participants are thankful for this holiday season:
“I’m thankful for all of the people who have taken time out of their busy lives to make a difference in DC.”
“I am thankful for my family and my school because they can provide good role models for us.”
“I’m thankful for my mom. I’m thankful for Grassroots. I’m thankful for school. I’m thankful for LIFE.”
“Thankful for the opportunity to be part of an inspiring Grassroots team.”
“I am thankful for my family because they support me and school because I get an education.”
“I am thankful for Grassroots because we talk about good decisions and prepares me for my future.”
“I am thankful to be around others who are so committed and passionate and for being around my family this year for Thanksgiving (and for all the delicious food)!”
“I am thankful for my friends and family who support me. I am thankful for the chance to make a difference in the lives of the youth in Washington, DC and help them choose to live better and healthier lives.”
We would like to take the opportunity this Thanksgiving to thank all those who make Grassroots possible. To every student-athlete coach who has volunteered his or her time, each school that has participated in our program for the past five years, every employee, every supporter, every advocate, and every donor: thank you. Without all of you, Grassroots would not be possible. Let’s give all of you a SHOUTOUT!
